Fourth of July Fireworks and Events in Southeast Michigan

Get your crew together for some patriotic fun this summer! Families all over the metro Detroit and Ann Arbor areas are gathering their blankets and chairs to kick back and relax while catching a local fireworks display. Metro Parent has rounded up a list of remarkable sky displays sure to please the whole family – and a few other fun activities, too. So dress the kids in their best red, white and blue apparel and head to these local Independence Day festivals and more.

The Ford Fireworks presented by Target Fireworks

June 24, 2013

  • Time: 10 p.m. Monday
  • Address: Detroit RiverWalk, downtown Detroit
  • Cost: free/general, $200/VIP

Get there early, as this generally draws a large crowd with fireworks being shot off from three barges on the Detroit River. There is also a VIP rooftop party atop the Miller Parking garage with family friendly games, fun activities, music and food (register in advance).

Clawson Fourth of Fourth of July Celebration

June 26, 29-July 1 and 3-4, 2013

  • Cost: free/many activities, $2/person to enter park (July 3-4)

This small town does Independence Day in a big way. The biggest family events happen Saturday June 29 (kiddy parade and games), Wednesday July 3 (midway opens for the evening) and Thursday July 4 (a parade, arts and crafts fair, Firecracker Mile – and, naturally, those 10 p.m. dusk fireworks!).

Red Run Golf Course Fireworks

Stars and Stripes Festival

June 28-June 30, 2013

  • Times: 2 p.m.-midnight Friday, noon-midnight Saturday, noon-11 p.m. Sunday
  • Address: Freedom Hill County Park, 15000 Metropolitan Parkway, Sterling Heights
  • Cost: free

Check out the fireworks Sunday night (June 30) at 10:45 p.m. There's also entertainment, food, art, carnival rides, petting farm, pony rides and more available all weekend.

Hudson Mills Metropark Fireworks

  • Time: 10 p.m. Saturday
  • Address: 8801 N. Territorial Road, Dexter
  • Cost: $5/vehicle before 5 p.m., $10/vehicle after, free/with annual permit

In advance (and a bit after), a DJ spins music in the activity center from 7 to 11 p.m.

White Lake Fireworks

June 29, 2013

  • Time: dusk Saturday (rain date is Sunday, June 30)
  • Address: Seven Harbors Beach, Highland
  • Cost: free

Various fundraising efforts support this spectacular two-barge display, helmed by the White Lake Citizens League.

Whitmore Lake Fireworks

June 29, 2013

  • Time: 10 p.m. Saturday (rain date Sunday, June 30)
  • Address: Whitmore Lake, viewing area across from the post office
  • Cost: free, some events or activities may include a fee

Grosse Pointe Farms Regatta and Fireworks

June 29, 2013

  • Time: music and regatta 7-9:45 p.m., fireworks at dusk Saturday
  • Address: Pier Park, 350 Lake Shore Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms
  • Cost: free

Before the boat races and concerts, earlier in the day, this annual event typically includes kids' fun (such as a decorated bike parade, face painting and sandcastle contest). Check out the website, via the Metro Parent listing, for the latest.

Ortonville Independence Day Fireworks

Parking available at Brandon High School, Harvey-Swanson Elementary School and Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School. Donations for the event cheerfully accepted.

Stony Creek Metropark Fireworks

June 30, 2013

  • Time: 10 p.m. Sunday
  • Address: 4300 Main Park Road, Shelby Township
  • Cost: $5/vehicle, $10 after 5 p.m., free/with annual permit

The Washington Township Board of Trustees sponsors this display.

Lake Erie Metropark Fireworks

July 3, 2013

  • Time: 10 p.m. Wednesday
  • Address: 32481 W. Jefferson Ave., Brownstown
  • Cost: $5/vehicle before 5 p.m., $10/vehicle after, free/with annual permit

Catch music from 6 to 9:30 p.m., as well as an open wave pool and other attractions at the park.

Beverly Hills/Birmingham Fireworks
