Fourth of July Fireworks and Events in Southeast Michigan

It's once again that time of year to celebrate America's independence the best way we know how: with big and colorful explosions in the sky! This Fourth of July, families all over the metro Detroit and Ann Arbor areas are heading out with their blankets and chairs to kick back and enjoy local fireworks shows. Not sure where to go? No worries. From the small town displays to the ones that can be seen for miles, Metro Parent has rounded up a list of remarkable sky displays and fun activities that is sure to please the whole family. (Note: Events are listed in date-order, and some are part of larger festivals.)

Ortonville CreekFest Fireworks

June 19-22, 2014

  • Time: Saturday: 10 a.m./parade, dusk/fireworks; Family fun is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday; other times vary

This year, Ortonville's CreekFest and fireworks have merged! This hybrid includes a celebration of Kearsley Creek and local waterways through educational exhibits, live music, contests and more. These four days of festivities include a parade, carnival, beer tent, 10K and 5K runs and spectacular fireworks dusk on Saturday.

Ford Fireworks in Detroit

June 23, 2014

This 56th annual display draws a large crowd to Detroit's popular RiverWalk, with fireworks shot off from three barges on the Detroit River. So get there early! Note that this year's VIP rooftop party is sold out.

Livonia Spree at Ford Field

June 24-29, 2014

  • Time: fireworks are 10:30 p.m. Sunday June 29; full festival dates are 4-11 p.m. Tuesday, 2-11 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, noon-11 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
  • Address: Ford Field, Farmington and Lyndon roads, Livonia
  • Cost: Free/entry, $25/all-day ride bracelets, $50/three-day rides

The grand finale of this annual festival features a 30-minute display presented by the Livonia Anniversary Committee. The rides go till 11 p.m., and there's plenty of other festival fun happening earlier in the day!

Rochester Festival of the Hills

June 25, 2014

This family-friendly annual event begins at 6 p.m. with fun games, activities and live entertainment. Stick around for Michigan's second largest fireworks display at 10:06 p.m. If it's a rainy day, bring your umbrella: This event is held rain or shine.

Clawson Fourth of July Celebration

June 25, 28-29 and July 3-4, 2014

Find out how this small town does Independence Day big! With an ice cream social on Wednesday, a kiddie parade on Saturday, a 5K run Sunday and amusement rides the following Thursday, this week of fun is sure to please the entire family. Romulus Community Fireworks

Presented by the Romulus Rotary Club, this colorful display can be seen from the area of Romulus Middle and Wick Elementary schools. Vendors will be selling food and glowing products to enjoy during the show.

Red Run Golf Course Fireworks

This family-friendly fireworks display is for Red Run Golf Course members only, but can be clearly seen from nearby neighborhoods. All you have to do is find a good spot, lay out a blanket or a few chairs and enjoy!

Seymour Celebration in Oxford

June 26-28, 2014

  • Time: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday; fireworks at dusk/Friday-Saturday

This sixth annual festival promises three days full of carnival rides, games, live entertainment – and, best of all, two fireworks displays (at dusk on Friday and Saturday!).

Taylor Summer Festival

June 26-29, 2014

  • Time: Carnival: 4-11 p.m. Thursday, noon-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 1-8 p.m. Sunday; Fireworks: dusk Saturday (rain date is Sunday)
  • Address: Heritage Park, near Sheridan Community Center, 12111 Pardee Road, Taylor
  • Cost: free/fireworks, $20/unlimited rides, $5/Friday bands, $10-$15/Saturday concert

On Saturday, find a fireworks spectacular display kicking off around 10 p.m. Make it a full day of fun with carnival rides, the Heritage Park Petting Farm, live entertainment and more. The entire fest also runs Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Stars and Stripes Festival

This bigger and better fireworks display will close out this epic weekend of fun with a bang, at 10:30 p.m. Sunday night (June 29). This year, the fest also offers tons of food, art, carnival rides, a petting zoo, and much more all weekend. Don't miss Family Day on Thursday, June 26, when carnival wristbands are half off!

Stony Creek Metropark Fireworks
