With vacation season gearing up, parents and kids are raring to get outside. And luckily, southeast Michigan's June lineup of events delivers precisely that. Soak up the Detroit River breeze, buy some quirky art (or make a craft of your own), get your Motor City car fix filled, hop on a midway ride and, of course, sink your teeth into some of the tastiest fare for miles around, from German grub to sweet strawberries. Every weekend promises new adventures, so make way for June fun!

Milan Community Fair

It all started in 1949 as the Milan Free Fair, and the party hasn't let up yet. Swing by for artisans, tons of food and a parade, plus a petting zoo and fireworks.

Birmingham Village Fair

May 29-June 1, 2014

It's a classic community fair, celebrating its 51st anniversary with rides, food booths and carnival games.

Macomb Fair & Expo

The midway fun includes rides, music, free shows, banana derby monkey jockeys, a petting zoo, a bird encounter and lots more fun!

Chevrolet Belle Isle Grand Prix

Race car fans of all ages take to Belle Isle for this annual event. Fast cars zip along a 2.3-mile track. Who will win? You'll have to go to see!

Grosse Ile IslandFest

June on Jefferson

It's now a month-long celebration of Jazz in Detroit. Art, music, kayak tours and more are in store at this community fest in the D – not to mention a fishing workshops and a kids day 10 a.m.-9 p.m. June 14.

Melvindale Days
