Target Fireworks in Detroit
For a 54th year, southeast Michigan's biggest sky spectacle is back and ready to dazzle families far and wide Monday June 25, 2012
Detroit's own Target Fireworks is one of the largest and grandest pyrotechnic displays in the world – with hundreds of thousands gathering downtown or watching from their TVs. Our Canadian neighbors also have front row seats to enjoy the 'works – which returns for an explosive 54th go on Monday, June 25, 2012.
The pre-Fourth of July sky show – which has a fitting "We Love Detroit" theme – is set to begin at 10:06 p.m. and end at 10:35 p.m. Coverage of the event starts at 8 p.m. on WDIV-Local 4.
For the kids, Detroit mascots like Paws will be out mingling with the crowds. There'll be prizes and giveaways throughout the night for children and adults alike.
Tony Lucca, second runner-up on season two on The Voice, is making an appearance. And Fifty Amp Fuse provides live music.
One quick note: The VIP Rooftop Party, presented by Charter One, is sold out. (Metro Parent recently gave away a family four-pack to one lucky winner!)
But not to fear: There's tons of free fun to be had just hanging out along the Detroit River. And Hart Plaza, Belle Isle and other locations will be open to watch the show, as well.
For this year's display, Patrick Brault serves as the show's choreographer (Brault also choreographed the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver!). Zambelli Fireworks Internationale is responsible for the fireworks. The Parade Company, which raises the funds for the event (and is also responsible for the magic of America's Thanksgiving Parade), selects the tunes that accompany the display.
To get your energy going for the fireworks, be sure to catch the Detroit International River Days Festival – happening in the preceding days from Friday, June 22 to Sunday, June 24.
