Grosse Ile Islandfest at the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport

This year, the family festival ushers in summer with rides, games and lots of fun, complete with beach theme, for kids and parents May 30-June 1, 2014

Grab the cooler and bust out the bathing suits – it's summertime! Celebrate the beginning of vacation time at the Grosse Ile Islandfest at the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport May 30-June 1, 2014.

For its 30th year, this weekend-long event welcomes you "join us at the beach." The fun includes reggae, island music and after-dark techno.

The main daytime attractions range from arts, crafts and games to food and rides for all ages. Kids and adults alike can marvel at aircraft displays, jump at the chance to ride in a monster truck and have a blast together playing on the midway or watching the Saturday morning parade.

A car show, live midway music, historical tours, traditional carnival rides and more also help you and yours kick off the start of the season – and the Friday evening fireworks display definitely rings it in with a boom.

Hungry? The local Knights of Columbus also delivers two steak dinners (Friday and Saturday), as well as a pancake breakfast on Sunday.

Islandfest is open three days. Hours are as follows:

  • Friday: 4-11 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. -midnight
  • Sunday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Best of all, Islandfest is absolutely free and open to everyone. So get out there and join the fun! For more details on the Grosse Ile Islandfest, including directions and a link to the official site, visit the Metro Parent calendar listing.
