'Nerf War' to Blast Out Arthritis in Clarkston

This second annual fundraiser by Andy Moy, 13, of Waterford has sites set on juvenile arthritis – and offering kids a day of fun on March 10, 2012

Ready to do battle – against juvenile psoriatic arthritis? Well, then, gather up your artillery (we mean Nerf guns, soft darts and goggles!) and march on over to the Stars & Stripes Activity Center Saturday, March 10, 2012 – for the second annual 'Nerf War' Fundraiser in Clarkston.

Headed up by 13-year-old Andy Moy of Waterford – who's had this disease since he was a tyke – his second annual effort is open to warriors ages 4 to adult. Entry to the event is $15, and the money Andy raises benefits his team at the Detroit Zoo Arthritis Walk on May 12, 2012. The goal is to fund the Arthritis Foundation's research – and Camp Dakota, a weeklong summer camp for Michigan Kids with arthritis.

"We had so much fun last year," Andy says in a statement, "and I can’t wait to do it again!"

With its 12,500-square-foot gym, this jumbo venue is a primo spot for the showdown, stocked with plenty of mats for safe and fun play. You can register for one or two sessions: 3:30-5 p.m. and 5:30-7 p.m. Participants are divided by age for fair play – though parents and kids, watch out!

"The adults had just as much fun as the kids last year," explains Jaime Moy, Andy's mother, in the press release. "Many of the kids would gang up on the adults, just to have their parents do a sneak attack right back on them. It truly is a fundraiser for all ages!"

Check out the Metro Parent listing to register – and learn more about the 2012 Nerf War Arthritis Walk Fundraiser at Stars & Stripes Activity Center in Clarkston.
