St. Patrick's Day Parade in Royal Oak

The downtown area turns green, March 16, 2013, as bagpipe players, river dancers and green-wearing parade-goers hit the streets!

Get your dose of green as the St. Patrick's Day Parade, hosted by the Norman O'Brien Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, rolls through the downtown Royal Oak March 16, 2013.

Celebrate the patron saint of Ireland with your fill of Irish heritage at this annual event, which includes traditional music, dance and food!

This fun, Shamrock-green-filled event will start at 11 a.m. Parade organizers are estimating that 300 participants and 2,500 to 3,500 viewers will show up to this year's parade. So, even though the parade is covering a lot of ground, make sure to get there early. That way you can land the best parade-viewing spot.

There will be plenty for you and your little lucky charms to see. This parade will start at the Royal Oak Middle School parking lot and will head south on Washington Avenue; it'll then turn west on Seventh Street and end at the St. Mary Church and School parking lot.

All of that excitement is going to work up an appetite. Hit the afterglow at the Eagles Club, located at 401 E. Forth St. and buy a corned beef and cabbage meal or some Shepherd's Pie – an Irish classic.

You could also head to O'Tooles at 205 W. Fifth St. This spot is Royal Oak's very own Irish American grill and bar. Buffalo wings, salad and pizza are among the items on this hot spot's menu. They even have a kid's menu, too.
