Bestest Concert Ever II at the Royal Oak Farmers Market

This Metro Parent-sponsored event will bring kid-friendly alternative music, hands-on activities and food to the masses, March 23, 2013

If you're tired of hearing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "London Bridge is Falling Down" for the 100th time, then spice it up by adding a new-wave twist to some of your children's favorite classic tunes.

On March 23, 2013, introduce your little ones to some of the coolest kindie (kid-indie) music out there by taking them to the Metro Parent-sponsored Bestest Concert Ever – now in its second year.

This year's line-up boasts a handful of talented musical groups:

  • Candy Band: This rockin' ensemble is composed of four Detroit moms who are committed to revolutionizing kids music by adding punk-rock flare to traditional children's tunes, as well as creating their own kindie compositions.
  • Howling Diablos: This band was formed in the '90s and has toured with the likes of Alice Cooper, Incubus and Hank Williams. Now, they're bringing kid-friendly rock 'n' roll to the Royal Oak Farmers Market.
  • The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music: Initiated as a place for children and adults to learn or hone the craft of music, this rad school will be bringing some of its talent to your family's ears during this lyrical extravaganza.

This musical event will also include hands-on activities for children of all ages. Kids can take a shot at playing musical instruments at McCourt's Musical Petting Zoo, try their hand at golf – thanks to the Royal Oak Golf Center – and make wax hands with the Creative Arts Studio!

You don't want to walk away from this family-friendly musical event without capturing the memories – and you don't have to. There will be a red carpet laid out for rock stars of all ages to get their professional photos taken in front of the Candy Band official racecar.

But all of that dancing is going to work up an appetite. No worries, food from Del Taco, Detroit BBQ Company and Creative Catering will be sold during this event.

The event takes place 5-8 p.m. Admission for this rockin' show will cost $5 – but it's free for children under 3. Proceeds benefit the Royal Oak High School Band and Orchestra Instrument Fund.
