Art Birmingham Fair and Festival in Shain Park
Head to downtown Birmingham for this annual arts festival running May 11-12, 2013
Gather your pint-sized Picassos, miniature Monets and wee Warhols! Art enthusiasts will want to head to downtown B-ham for the 32nd annual Art Birmingham fair, happening May 11-12, 2013.
Over 150 artists from across the country will set up at Birmingham's lovely and recently redesigned Shain Park. Browse booths of art – all with a unique flavor. The exhibiting artists range in the mediums they use, giving visitors a variety of interesting pieces to enjoy. Artists will show off work ranging from clay, glass, wood and fiber art to photography, jewelry, printmaking and much more.
The two-day event will also have a youth activities tent, where kids can have a hands-on DIY art experience. Kids 12 and under can make a special Mother's Day craft on May 12 – a keepsake book for mom. The tent will be set up near Merrill and Bates streets. The craft is free.
Art Birmingham is produced by the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, in association with The Guild of Artists & Artisans. BBAC is a nonprofit organization that offers art classes for all levels and ages. The Ann Arbor-based Guild of Artists and Artisans is a nonprofit, too, that aims to "develop and present art fairs" to help market its member artists and enrich the community through art, the group notes on its site.
The free event runs 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Shain Park is located at South Bates and West Merril streets, and the fair will take place on the streets in and around the park.
