Civil War Remembrance in Greenfield Village in Dearborn

Honor fallen veterans with your children at this Memorial Day weekend event at The Henry Ford, with activities happening May 24-26, 2014

A Memorial Day celebration and an engaging history lesson rolled into one? Now that's thinking smart, and it's exactly what you'll get at the Civil War Remembrance at Greenfield Village in Dearborn this Memorial Day weekend.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the turning point of the war and the series of battles that led to Gen. Robert E. Lee's surrender.

Camps, cavalry and period music will pop up all over the village as more than 450 Union and Confederate re-enactors dress in period clothing and act out scenes from the Civil War. Military tactical demonstrations, historian insights, special presentations and hands-on activities, among others, are included in your experience – and a special concert featuring alternative folk band Tim Eriksen & the Trio de Pumpkintown happens at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

At 3 p.m. Monday, The Henry Ford will participate in a national moment of silence to honor the estimated 750,000 Civil War casualties as well as countless other fallen soldiers from other wars.

Greenfield Village is open for this event 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday-Monday. Tickets are available through The Henry Ford's call center and are $24/adults and $17.50/children 5-12.
