Meet Metro Parent at Great Ann Arbor Area Family Events

We're going to be in Tree Town at various dates between May and December of 2012. Bring the kids for fun – and to say hi

MetroParent.com is taking our "social networking" chops off of Facebook and into the real world – specifically, a slew of awesome family fun runs, shows and festivals in Washtenaw County! Swing by to meet the MP "street team" in person. We'll have a table set up where you can grab a magazine and other goodies. Can't wait to see you there.

Walk & Wag and Run

  • When: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 19
  • Where: Rolling Hills Water Park, 7660 Stony Creek Road, Ypsilanti
  • Cost: Registration: $30/walker, $50/runner, $120/family
  • What: Along with a 5K run and a one-mile walk, find interactive canine games, contests, vendors, kids' activities, entertainment by the Classic K9s Dog Show and a $1,000 raffle. Proceeds help the Humane Society of Huron Valley support loving, responsible care of all animals in the community.

New Balance Girls on the Run Spring 5K

  • When: 9:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, May 20
  • Where: Rynearson Stadium, Eastern Michigan University, 799 N. Hewitt Road, Ypsilanti
  • Cost: $25-$30/particpants, free/non-runners
  • What: This fun event lets hundreds of southeast Michigan girls do their first 5K. Includes face painting, a bounce house, kids' dash, music, food and more.

Zany Umbrella Circus

  • When: 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 30
  • Where: Leslie Science & Nature Center, 1831 Traver Road, Ann Arbor
  • Cost: Advance: $15/person, $50/immediate family; Door: $17/person, $60/immediate family
  • What: This Pittsburgh-based folk art circus combines physical theater, dance and music to tell live tales of the natural world with aerial fabric, trapezes, masks and puppetry – all outdoors in an amazing local nature center. Bonus: The funds help support the center's programs!

Townie Street Party

  • When: 5-9:30 p.m. Monday, July 16
  • Where: Washington Street between Thayer and Fetcher streets and on Ingalls Mall, downtown Ann Arbor
  • Cost: Free!
  • What: This kick-off fundraiser for the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair is jam-packed with family fun, from the Kids' Art Fair (featuring the work of kids in grades 3-8) to terrific local bands.

New Balance Girls on the Run Winter 5K

  • When: Sunday, Dec. 9
  • Where: TBA
  • Cost: TBA
  • What: The crew is returning for another 5K event for young southeast Michigan girls. Stay tuned for details!
