Memorial Weekend Events in Southeast Michigan

Families can celebrate the holiday weekend with parades, festivals and activities for all ages May 23-27, 2013. Here are highlights for parents and kids!

This Memorial Day weekend is the start of a sunny summer for parents and kids alike in Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and Washtenaw counties. The weekend will be filled with parades, ceremonies and festivals creating fun for the whole family. Take the little ones out to see a war re-enactment or a memorial service to honor our veterans and active-duty military members – the reason behind this celebration. Get your cooler packed and take the kids out for some holiday fun!

Sumpter Township Country Fest in Belleville

This five-day event features everything from carnival and pony rides to clowns and magicians. In addition, there's a craft and car show, live music and DJs and even a demolition derby. Adults can enjoy a beer tent and casino.

Southfield Memorial Day Service

This ceremony includes a presentation of colors, 21-gun salute, performance by the Southfield-Lathrup High School advanced choir and a playing of taps. Pastor Larry Jordan of Family Victory Fellowship Church provides the invocation and benediction. Light refreshments available in city hall following the ceremony.

St. Mary's Polish Country Fair in Orchard Lake

May 24-27, 2013

Polish and American food, entertainment and carnival rides are just a few of the many things happening at this cultural festival. Along with kids activities like pottery painting and mosaics, there's fun for all ages with shopping, raffles and a Vegas tent.

Macomb Fair & Expo in Mount Clemens

Enjoy rides and free daily entertainment for three weekends, starting Memorial Day weekend, at Gibraltar Trade Center. Rides require tickets that can be purchased – or armbands for those who want to ride till they drop. Equipped with a full bar; an outdoor heated pavilion hosts live music every Friday night, too.

Memorial Day Ceremony Livonia

This tribute to veterans includes military salutes, a wreath-placing ceremony, a special guest and music. After the ceremony, attendees can also visit the Memorial Wall that honors Livonia veterans whose names are etched in granite and listed by the war in which they served.

Greater Rochester Heritage Days

A weekend of Civil War re-enactments, lumberjack shows and pony rides awaits at the local park. The festival celebrates Rochester and Oakland County history with displays and demonstrations. Antique fire trucks and custom cars are here on Sunday.

Military History Weekend at Fort Wayne Detroit

Watch re-enactors set up camp this weekend at Fort Wayne. The focus is World War I "living history" with action centered at the fort's Spanish-American War guardhouse.

Civil War Remembrance at Greenfield Village in Dearborn

More than 450 military re-enactors put together an authentic encampment with parades, artillery demonstrations and period music. Find special exhibits and presentations, civilian camps and hands-on activities, too.

Warren's Greatest Garage Sale

Royal Oak Memorial Day Parade

Starting at Main Street near Harrison Street, the parade heads north to Second Street, where the traditional memorial service is held at the Royal Oak veterans' memorial. Also, the Memorial Day pancake breakfast at the Royal Oak Farmers Market runs 7 a.m. to noon.
