MotorCity Comic Con 25th Anniversary Weekend in Novi

This annual pop culture event brings many of your favorite comic book and sci-fi characters to the Suburban Collection Showcase May 16-18, 2014

Rev up the Batmobile, comic book fans: The MotorCity Comic Con is coming to the Suburban Collection Showcase in Novi May 16-18, 2014 – and some of your favorite characters might just be there.

Among the big names expected to make an appearance this year are Jon Bernthal of The Walking Dead, professional wrestler "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Michigan "Zombie Toes" artist Dennis Anderson and even Star Trek legend Captain Kirk himself – William Shatner! Autograph sessions and photo opportunities with actors are available at additional charges.

Can't wait till Friday? Check out the Thursday pre-con fun at AMC 20 in nearby Livonia, for a charity-screening event called A Knight to Remember. It features Brett Culp's Batman-themed documentary Legends of the Knight, as well as guest speakers, trivia and prizes. Proceeds from this event, which is $11 per person (buy tickets online), go to help fund the Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan.

In traditional comic con fashion, visitors can participate in panel discussions and meet and greets with some of the people behind their favorite characters – and, for those who plan to come in costume, even compete in one of two cosplay competitions (there's one for ages 13-plus – and another just for kids ages 12-plus at 2 p.m. Sunday).

Want to get in some gaming? Be sure to visit the Rolling Video Games truck trailer, featuring four 55-inch widescreen high-definition TVs and loads of consoles, from Xbox to Wii.

The times are as follows:

  • Friday: 12:30-7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Tickets range from $30-$65 for adults and $10-$20 for children. Various hotels in the area are offering special rates for convention goers and parking is available at Suburban Collection Showcase for $5 per vehicle.
