Washtenaw Wanderers Walking Club Fairy Door Walk in Ann Arbor

Bring the kids to downtown Ann Arbor for a 5K or 10K walk, May 5, 2013, to see Urban Fairy Doors, Dragons and Trolls

Tree Town is a very magical place. Just find and count the number of urban fairy doors around town. On May 5, 2013, bring your little ones to Ann Arbor for a walk around to see these pint-sized doors during the Fairy Door Walk, sponsored by the Washtenaw Wanderers Walking Club.

Not sure what an "urban fairy door" is? They're teeny tiny doors made just for fairies hidden at the local businesses in Ann Arbor. You can find the small entrances at businesses like the Peaceable Kingdom or Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea. The first door appeared in the house of Ann Arbor resident Jonathan b. Wright, so the story goes.

Thanks to the Washtenaw Wanderers, you won't miss seeing any of these doors. Registration for the event runs 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the walk kicks off in the basement of The Michigan Union. Just pick a 5K or 10K walking route and you'll be provided with a map. The Washtenaw Wanderers ask that participants wrap up their walks around 4 p.m.

The walk is for people of all ages and abilities. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. There will be restrooms and water at the start and at other stops during the walk.

The tour is free to attend, but you can buy a fairy door refrigerator magnet for $7. The group stresses there are only 100 available.

Don't forget, if you happen to spot a fairy on your tour, please don't feed them chocolate, the Washtenaw Wanderers ask on the event page, because "everybody knows what fairies are like on chocolate."

For more information on the 2013 Fairy Door Walk sponsored by the Washtenaw Wanders Walking Club, check out the Metro Parent calendar listing.
