Southeast Michigan Museums
25 E. Grand River Ave.
Families who visit the Detroit Puppet Theater in Detroit are often surprised to find this small museum gem tucked inside. Arrive a bit early before any puppet show (they're usually at 2 p.m. on Saturdays) to explore this collection of puppets from various cultures, from China to West Africa to Russia, plus works by Detroit legend Ed Johnson. Some are tucked behind glass; others are touchable. Staff are happy to give you the history and show you around.
