The 2013-14 season will showcase $10 million in improvements to Mount Brighton, including new chairlifts, a new children's ski area, complete redesign of base area facilities and much more. You'll still find 130 skiable acres with 26 trails to explore. If you're looking for a nighttime thrill, try hitting the slopes after dark, with some slopes staying open until 2 a.m. on Saturdays. Kids may want to try the new EpicMix, an interactive feature that tracks your accomplishments on the slopes with digital leader boards and progress tracking.

This expertly maintained ski hill has nine black-diamond trails and world-class instructors teach you the tips and tricks of the slopes. There are seven lifts and five rope tows to get you to the slope for your skill level. Take a break and warm up next to the fire in the Bavarian lodge before you head back out for more downhill fun.

Just a quick drive up I-75, Pine Knob is a regional favorite. Because it's close, you'll have the whole day to ski the 17 runs, with six chairlifts and four rope tows to get you to the top! Everyone will find a slope to meet their skill level. All-day weekend passes are available. Snowboarders in your family will want to test their skills on the rails and jumps at Big Park.

Shanty Creek has two enormous mountains with over 50 runs, so skiers and snowboarders of all experience levels can find the right slopes to suit their fancy. For a more relaxed time, enjoy cross-country skiing – while thrill-seekers can try extreme tubing down a special slope of the mountain.

Starting back in 1960 under the name Little Switzerland, this resort is a great place to learn how to ski. Strap up your boots, click into some skis and sign up for one of their lessons. If you're up for some friendly competition on the slopes, sign up for one of the many races during the 2013-14 season!
