Best Skiing and Snowboarding in, around Southeast Michigan

For your next family winter getaway, spend a day (or more) conquering the snow-covered mountains at great ski resorts in metro Detroit and beyond in 2013-14

Ask any Michigander and they'll agree: Hitting the slopes is one of the region's favorite winter pastimes. We've compiled this list of ski resorts that are of great quality and close to home. Metro Parent has included the prices for lift tickets, ski rentals and other information you'll need before you go. Be sure to check the websites which sometimes offer partial season passes and other discounts.

You may not have to wait long to make one of these trips, as many of these resorts have their own snow-making machines when temperatures dip low enough!

Alpine Valley

Alpine Valley has a brand new fleet of rental skis and has expanded its snowmaking capabilities, making it an ideal choice for your next ski trip. Snowboarders will love the half-pipe, and skiers can have fun all day on 25 tree-lined slopes at this southeast Michigan park. There are nine chair lifts and four rope tows to help you make your way to the top of the slopes.

The folks at Bittersweet Ski Resort pride themselves on their snowmaking ability. The resort just north of Kalamazoo has a quad chairlift to complement six other chairlifts and six rope tows to get you on their snow-covered slopes. For kids ages 6 years and under, rates are 50 percent off! Stay at one of the many local hotels and inns and make a weekend out of your trip.

Between the two ski areas, you can fly through 115 runs and 850 skiable acres. Boyne is celebrating its 50th season by adding new rental equipment, better snowmaking tools, an expanded spa and pool, and remodeled lodge rooms. Tickets at Boyne Mountain are also good at its sister ski area, Boyne Highlands.

Crystal Mountain
