The half pipe and a mini board park – popular with the kids for snowboarders. Strap on your helmet and wax your skis to swoosh down 25 tree-lined slopes at southeast Michigan's largest ski and snowboard area. There are nine chair lifts and four rope tows to help you make your way to the top of the slopes.

This extensive Livingston County ski resort includes 130 skiable acres – along with 26 trails. Seven chair lifts and 11 surface lifts zip you to the slopes. For night owls, try skiing through the chilly dark air: Some slopes don't close until 2 a.m. on Saturday. New this year, the resort is opening progression parks within their 15-acre terrain park. Get ready to jump!

Just 42 minutes northeast of Detroit, you can get to this resort in a flash. Once here, you'll have plenty of time to ski through the 17 runs, with six chairlifts and four towropes to get you to them – whether you're looking for an easy trail or a double black diamond. All-day weekend passes are also available. You might notice more snow when you visit this year: The resort has increased its number of snow guns by 20 percent!

Once the weather turns cold, it's time to head to the slopes at Bittersweet Ski Resort just north of Kalamazoo.
