Equestrian Expo at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi

Southeast Michigan kids and parents who love horses: Take note! The annual family fun event trots back into Oakland County Nov. 8-10, 2013.

Whether you're a horse owner or just an admirer, saddle up and gallop over to the 19th annual Novi Equestrian Expo, at the Suburban Collection Showplace Nov. 8-10, 2013. Presented with the Michigan Horse Council, the weekend event features a range of vendors, riding exhibitions and demonstrations by clinicians from across the state. Admission is $10/adults, $5/kids 6-12 and free/kids 5 and under.

Get a glance of some famous horses, including Clifford the Horse, Drummond Island Morgan, as he shows off his cool tricks, like signing his own biography and painting with a sponge and watercolors. Or meet Zelda the Zorse (Saturday only) – half draft horse, half zebra. Kids also can take pony rides and check out the mini horse costume parade.

Families also can watch local kids and grown-ups perform in the Dancing with Horses musical variety show, which highlights talented riders, equine performers, drill teams, pairs and horseback gymnasts, all fully costumed and set to music. Stop by the designated kids area for fun crafts and educational demos presented by 4-H Youth Development Organization.

Grown-ups can listen to speakers on topics like horses' healing power and "changing your thinking" about riding, check out the model horse show, participate in a range of riding and agility exhibitions and get horse health and training tips.

Event times are as follows:

  • Friday: 2-8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m.-7p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
