This indoor ice arena is home to Rochester and Stoney Creek teams and hosts Oakland University Men's Hockey. Want to try a triple axel? Located in the heart of Detroit, this rink keeps city hours – you can skate until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Dress warmly to keep the chill away. The season of skating officially kicked off following the Detroit Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Campus Martius Park on Nov.16.
St. Clair Shores Civic Arena

Cost: $3 per skater, kids ages 5 and under get in free with a paying adult
This local ice arena is the perfect place to learn to skate. You can even start your youngsters out early at the tot program – 11 a.m.-noon on Thursdays ($3 per skater). Pucks and parents helps develop your child's skills – check it out 2-3 p.m. Thursday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday. And for those who already know how to skate and want to play hockey, check out the evening adult leagues.

Make figure eights among the trees at this outdoor rink that also caters to hockey enthusiasts. While there are no skate rentals, you will find a warming room for frosty toes, vending machines and restrooms.

With three locations (it's also got facilities in Farmington Hills and East Lansing), you can always find a Suburban Ice rink near you. Stop in for afternoon and evening skate sessions, or sign up for the popular Thanksgiving hockey clinics and learn-to-skate programs for kids 3 and up.

Ice is nice! For themed events throughout the year, this indoor rink is sure to have something to appeal to your family. Along with the times listed, there are additional open skate slots available for holidays and other times (browse the website). They have lockers for your gear and a pro shop to keep your blades sharp. Oh, and don't worry about packing treats: There's a full snack bar available for when your kids get hungry.

Located on the University of Michigan Athletic Campus, this newly renovated ice arena includes lessons for wannabe figure skaters and those just looking to grasp the basics. Along with hockey camps and hockey leagues, you can also try out broomball.
