Santaland Parade in Garden City

'Rock' into the holiday season Nov. 24, 2012 when this family fun event makes its way down the streets in a Wayne County Christmas favorite

Grab a toy to donate – and get ready to jam – during the Garden City 52nd annual Santaland Parade! This year's theme is "Rock and Roll Christmas," and the festivities all go down on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012.

This time around, Miss Michigan Angela Venditti acts as the parade's grand marshal. And plenty of characters and stunts compete for tykes' attention, including Star Wars characters, horses, unicyclists and lots more. You'll also hear the music of three surrounding high school marching bands and a drum and bugle corps – and witness two giant parade balloons – traveling down Middlebelt Road.

Bring that unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots and a Star Wars character will pick it up for you during the parade. If you're local, you can watch live on GCTV, too – starting at 9:45 a.m. – or streaming via the Garden City website.

After the parade, see Santa receive a key to the city from the mayor. Kids entertainment and refreshments will be here, too. And, of course, children can line up to tell Santa Claus their wish lists. Why not top it off by buying a comfy Santaland 2012 hoodie for $20 to support the parade's future?

The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24 at Garden City High School. It travels south on Middlebelt Road and ends at the Garden City Town Center. The post-parade party activities are at the town center immediately afterward. And all events are free!
