Sound Garden: Fall Celebration at the Trails

Oct. 6, 2012

  • Where: Lower Rouge River Trail Head, Michigan Avenue at Morton Taylor Road, Canton
  • Time: noon-3 p.m.
  • Cost: free admission

Musicians, artists and potters share their talents during live performances and demos along the trail. Stop by for lunch during your hike at Custom Cruisin' Coneys.

Huron Applefest

Oct. 6-7, 2012

  • Where: downtown Huron Township
  • Times: 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday
  • Cost: free admission

Now in its 33rd year, this fest has apple pie contests, entertainment, food booths, and plenty of activities the whole family will enjoy.

Wilson Barn Pumpkin Fest

Oct. 6-28, 2012

  • Where: Wilson Barn, 29350 W. Chicago Road, Livonia
  • Times: 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
  • Cost: $3/ponyrides, $1.75-$2.50/hayrides

For fresh pumpkins, cornstalks and straw, head to Wilson's. Fall will delight your kids, from pony and hayrides to inflatables and even a haunted barn.

Sukkot Celebration

Oct. 7, 2012

  • Where: Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, 6600 W. Maple Road, Bloomfield Hills
  • Times: 10:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Cost: free

Clawson Fall Festival

Oct. 7, 2012

  • Where: City Park, West Elmwood and North Washington avenues, Clawson
  • Times: 3-7:30 p.m.
  • Cost: free

Food trucks roll in this year, providing tasty treats. Activities include hayrides, train rides, a petting zoo – all free! Be sure to catch the bonfire at 6:15 p.m.

Hallowe'en in Greenfield Village

Oct. 12-14, 19-21, 26-28, 2012

  • Where: Greenfield Village, 20900 Oakwood Blvd., Dearborn
  • Times: 6:30-9 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays, 6:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Sundays (note: tours leave every half hour)
  • Costs: $15/ages 5-plus, free/under 2, $5/parking

Follow hundreds of jack-o'-lantern along a trail of treats! The Village is decked out for holiday fun that's not too scary. Don't forget to wear costumes.

Zoo Boo

Oct. 12-14, 19-21, 26-28, 2012

  • Where: Detroit Zoo, 8450 W. 10 Mile Road, Royal Oak
  • Times: 6-8 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays (note: on Oct. 27, there are only 5 and 5:30 p.m. times available)
  • Cost: $7/ages 2-plus, advance, $10/gate

Help your little ones along a half-mile of treats with dressed characters giving out goodies. (This event isn't too scary for little ones – even with a Zombie Zone.) Make your reservations early; this one sells out!
