October Family Fun Fairs & Festivals in Southeast Michigan

Autumn 2014 is here, so grab your sweatshirts and head out to one of these fab fall fests in Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

The air is feeling cooler, leaves are changing color, days are getting shorter and nights longer – and the fun of summer has passed us by. But don't get the winter-time blues just yet. Southeast Michigan is packed full of fun, seasonal fairs and festivals sure to put a bit of fun into your fall. Whether you're looking to get a taste of other cultures, celebrate the season or just get out of the house before the snow falls, one of these fests in Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and Washtenaw counties are sure to be the right fit.

Wilson Barn Pumpkin Fest (and Haunted Barn)

Sept. 27-Oct. 30, 2014 (daily)

The pumpkin fest has fresh pumpkins, cornstalks and pony and hayrides during the week. Weekends have a haunted barn, with some thrills and chills for all (scare factor is adjusted based on age). Plus cider doughnuts, hot chocolate and crafts.

Trenton Scarecrow Festival

Oct. 3-5, 2014

The 13th year brings dachshund races along with rides, arts crafts and free entertainment. Be sure to test your skills at the scarecrow-building contest, too.

Dexter Apple Daze

Oct. 4, 2014

This annual event features a car show, crafts, hayrides, miniature golf, food and more fun for the kids, all hosted by the Dexter Lions Club.

Harvest Happening

Now entering year No. 28, this favorite-family event has farm animals, a bake sale, hayrides, food, performances by local bands and even a puppet show.

Huron Applefest

Oct. 4-5, 2014

For its 35th year, the festival brings an old-time fiddling contest, a parade, apple pie contest and more.

Clawson Fall Festival

Come over for free family fun including hayrides, farm animals, inflatable and games. Food tucks and baked goods, too. Bonfire closes out the festival at 6:15 p.m.

International Festival

This festival celebrates the heritage of the Polish, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Ukrainian and others with cultural music and dance, children's art-making workshops, demonstrations and exhibits, a bazaar and more.

Zoo Boo

Dress up in your favorite costumes for a half-mile of trick or treating fun. Plus, the Zoo Boo Revue, Ghouly Games, the Haunted Reptile House and Zombie Zone. (Note: Advance registration is highly recommended; can sell out.)

Hallowe'en in Greenfield Village

More than 1,000 carved jack-o'-lanterns light your way through the mile-long, curving trick or treating path. Don your favorite costumes, meet some classic creepy characters at this nightmare-free event. (Note: Tours leave every half hour. You must register for this event.)

Garden Fresh Hilton Fall Festival

Stonewall Pumpkin Festival

See the hundreds of jack o' lanterns line the Rochester Hills Museum and even carve your own! Then enjoy, pumpkin bowling, music, hayrides, food fire trucks, and crafts. Swing by early to decorate your own pumpkin!

Taylor Fall Fest
