Eastern Market Harvest Festival

Get creative with apple pie-baking contests (pre-register), apple pie-eating contests, pumpkin-carving contests, hula hooping, a scavenger hunt (pre-register) and even a petting zoo.

Hilton Fall Festival

Oct. 13, 2012

  • Where: Hilton Road and Cambourne Street, Ferndale
  • Times: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Cost: $5/person

The carnival-like atmosphere is in full swing at this local tradition. Try the rock-climbing wall, bounce in inflatables and enjoy face painting, pony rides, music, crafts and tons more.

Stonewall Pumpkin Festival

Oct. 13, 2012

  • Where: Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, 1005 Van Hoosen Road, Rochester Road
  • Times: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. activities; 7-9 p.m. pumpkin lighting
  • Cost: $7

Have you ever tried pumpkin bowling? You can here. Save time for pumpkin carving and a hayride, too. After the main activities, swing back for the pumpkin lighting later that evening.

Taylor Fall Fest

Oct. 13, 2012

  • Where: Heritage Park, 1211 Pardee Road, Taylor
  • Times: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Cost: free

This annual event has arts and crafts vendors, plus free pumpkin decorating (while supplies last), hayrides, inflatables and more for kids.

Davisburg Heritage Festival

Oct. 13-14, 2012

  • Where: downtown Davisburg
  • Times: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday
  • Cost: free admission

Enjoy a pancake breakfast (Saturday), historic crafts, games and a parade (kicking off noon Saturday). There's also a farmer's market, tractor rides, historic demonstrations and a variety of contests.

Halloween Festival

Oct. 20, 2012

  • Where: Nankin Mills at Hines Park, 33175 Ann Arbor Trail, Westland
  • Times: 1-3 p.m.
  • Cost: free

Downtown Halloween Festival

Kid-approved fun at this local event celebrates the holiday with plenty of treats and fun. Clowns are on hand to keep your kids entertained.

Trick or Treat Trail

  • Times: 5:30-8:30 p.m.
  • Cost: $5/resident, $7/non-resident

Let your little ones dress in costume for this community event where they wind through an indoor trail getting treats and toys along the way.

Halloween Party

Sixty local downtown businesses will decorate the area and give out goodies. Plan on letting your kids take their time collecting candy, getting their faces painted and more.
