Zoo Boo at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak

Friendly ghouls and ghosts keep your little ones on their toes this Halloween season during the weekends of Oct. 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27, 2013

Note: The Saturday, Oct. 26 date is sold out!

Be sure to wear a costume to this year's Zoo Boo at the Detroit Zoo! This half-mile walk is designed to allow your wee one to trick-or-treat without worry. There's definitely no need to fear: This Royal Oak event is "merry-not-scary" fun for the whole family.

In 2013, the big boo event happens Oct. 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27 – rain or shine. Time slots are 6-8 p.m. Fridays and 5-8 p.m. on the weekends. As always, organizers recommend you buy your tickets early; while some will be offered at the door, supplies are very limited, due the popularity of this event.

After your kids stroll and gather goodies, there's plenty more fun in store. Children can jam out to live entertainment during the Zoo Boo Revue and play some Ghouly Games at a tent sponsored by Blue Care Network. The Reptile House and Zombie Zone are other can't-miss spots to play games and participate in cool activities.

Younger children will get a kick out of the carousel, and the Arctic Cafe is open for your family to get your grub on. The Wild Adventure Zone shows The Wizard of Oz, while the Simulator Ride features Happy Feet: Mumble's Wild Ride (note that these features are an extra $5 a person – or $7 if you choose to do both).

Advance tickets are $8 per person, while children under 2 get in free. (There will be very-limited supplies of tickets at the gate after 5 p.m. for $11 – again, though, note that advance registration is highly recommended!). Parking at the zoo is $5.
