Astronomy at the Beach
Ready for some serious star gazing? This family fun nighttime event returns to Kensington Metropark in Milford Sept. 9-10, 2011.
A starry night by the lake gets even better – through a telescope! That's the idea behind Astronomy at the Beach, now in its 15th year. This fave for night-owl families hits Kensington Metropark 6 p.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10.
Your pint-sized astronomer gets star treatment with a comet-making demonstration, a scavenger hunt with prizes – and a portable planetarium providing night sky simulation tours of the constellations.
Then, when you're ready for the real thing, members of the Great Lakes Association Astronomy Clubs are waiting with their souped-up telescopes. Parents and kids alike can peek at early sunspots, and later observe dozens of celestial objects in the darker sky.
Held at Kensington's Maple Beach, this event is free, aside from the required $5 Metroparks vehicle pass. Click here for the address and more information on the 2011 Astronomy at the Beach!
