The kids may not be that keen on jazz, but that doesn’t mean you can’t school them with the cool sounds that are emanating from Detroit this weekend at the Detroit Jazz Festival. The festival’s Kid Bop tent offers stories and interactive opportunities for “wee-boppers” on Saturday, Sept. 3 through Labor Day Monday, Sept. 5.  Art projects from Arts & Scraps, tap dancers, balloon artists and face painters round out the fun. Here’s the schedule:

Saturday, Sept. 3

1-1:45 p.m.: Michelle McKinney & Her Hip Cats

2:15-3 p.m.: Bambuti Drum & Dance Group

4-5 p.m.: MADD Rhythms wsg Rod Ferrone

Sunday, Sept. 4

1-1:45 p.m. Bambuti Drum & Dance Group

2:15-3 p.m. Mosaic Singers

4-5 p.m.: MADD Rhythms wsg Rod Ferrone

For parents, there’s a host of hot acts – from Quincy Jones fave Toots Thielemans on Saturday, to 2011 Artist in Residence Jeff “Tain” Watts on Sunday, to Jay Leno’s former bandleader Kevin Eubanks on Labor Day Monday. The festival shows begin around 11 a.m. and run until 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 9 p.m. on Monday. Stick around to see Fireworks at Hart Plaza at 11 p.m. The best part? It’s all totally free.
