While vacation is gone and class is back in session, there's still a ton of fun to be had around metro Detroit and Ann Arbor. From the all-new Great Lakes State Fair and once-in-a-lifetime bicentennial celebration of the War of 1812 in Detroit – to loads of classic events, like the Ren Fest, Pumpkin Fest and Victorian Fest – we've got your fall lineup of great activities for the kids (once they've finished that homework, of course!).
Detroit Jazz Festival
Aug. 31-Sept. 3, 2012

Celebrate Detroit's legacy in jazz culture in this four-day fest that features 100-plus talented artists, food and family fun in the art of Detroit.
Great Lakes State Fair

Old St. Patrick Labor Day Festival

Loads of entertainment includes a petting zoo, face painting, inflatables, rock climbing, live stage performances, a country store, dinners and more.
New Baltimore Art on the Bay

The Anchor Bay fun returns with 100-plus artists, food from local restaurants and live music.
Renaissance Festival

Navy war ships and an exact replica of the Brig Niagara – a pivotal ship during the war – will moor along the Detroit riverfront and be available for folks to tour. There's a Navy Festival over at the Renaissance Center, too (10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, and starting at 10 a.m. Sunday – end time not yet set).
