Richmond Area Good Old Days Festival
Sept. 6-9, 2012
- Where: downtown Richmond
- Times: 5-10 p.m. Thursday, 4-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
- Cost: free; some costs for attractions
Look for the classic car parade and cruise, Little Miss Richmond contest, strawberry shortcake social, outhouse races, arm wrestling and a horseshoe contest, along with and a children's parade down Main Street.
Art & Apples Festival
Sept. 7-9, 2012
- Where: Municipal Park, downtown Rochester
- Times: 4-7:30 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday
- Cost: free
Plenty of food courts accompany the nearly 300 artists hosted by Paint Creek Center for the Arts. Look for live music and a popular kids' fun area, too.
Plymouth Fall Festival
Sept. 7-9, 2012
- Where: downtown Plymouth
- Times: noon-11 p.m. Friday, 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday
- Cost: free
Sporting a section of rides for little kids, this shebang has carnival rides, pancake breakfast, Rotary barbecue, a taste fest, crafts and more.
Highland Heydays
Sept. 8-9, 2012
- Where: downtown Highland
- Times: 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday
- Cost: free
Saturday evening has square dancing and barbecue. The Sunday Pet-A-PALooza is geared to families and their pets, featuring animal magic shows, pet demos, crafts and more. Street fair and inflatables, too.
Village Fest in Grosse Pointe
Sept. 8-9, 2012
- Where: Kercheval Avenue in The Village, downtown Grosse Pointe
- Times: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday
- Cost: free
Formerly known as Grosse Pointe's Greatest Block Party, this event lets you get a sample of food, music, art, kids' fun, a Pooch Parade, artists and local eatery samples.
Troy Family Daze
Sept. 13-16, 2012
- Where: Zion Christian Church, 3668 Livernois Road, Troy
- Times: 4-9 p.m. Thursday, 4-11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, 1-9 p.m. Sunday
- Cost: free
It's a family outing with free stage shows, talent shows, amusement rides, youth/parent contests, entertainment, games crafts and fireworks.
Romulus Pumpkin Festival
Sept. 14-16, 2012
- Where: Historical Park, 11147 Hunt St., Romulus
- Times: 6-11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday
- Cost: free
A night parade starts the party with everything lighted, from bicycles to cement trucks, heading down Goddard Road. The street festival includes music and food, along with crafts pumpkin-rolling, pumpkin-pie-eating and pumpkin-seed-spitting contests.
