Nothing beats a summer festival – and folks in southeast Michigan love ‘em. That’s apparent due to the success of the Bay-Rama FishFly Festival in downtown New Baltimore, which has been happening since 1964. And guess what? It’s that time of the year again! So push aside your list of things to do. In Macomb County, this shindig takes over June 24-28, 2015.
First, you’ve got to check out the midway. No doubt your kids will want to check out the rides and entertainment in store this year. Rosco The Clown even makes an appearance on the midway each day of the event. The midway is open 3-10 p.m. Wednesday-Friday – with extended hours of noon-10 p.m. Saturday – and then noon-7 p.m. Sunday.
Plus, the fest will have games like dig for silver, a ping-pong drop, a bubble-gum blowing contest, “wrap your mummy” contest, food eating contests and more (be sure to check to schedule to see which days each event happens). Don’t forget Saturday is Kids Day. For kids 12 and under, there are free games, a bike raffle, special programs, a petting zoo and other fun.
Special events running this year are the Miss Bay-Rama Queens pageant at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the can’t-miss “Fabulous FishFly Festival Fireworks” popping off at dusk Thursday at Walter and Mary Burke Park. Then, hit the third annual Princess and Pirate Pizza Party 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, the Cardboard Boat Regatta 5 p.m. Saturday – and on the last day of the event, the 1 p.m. Bay-Rama Parade.
The festival is free, but it’s $20 for a ride wristband. Times for this year’s Bay-Rama FishFly Festival are as follows:
- Wednesday: 3-11 p.m.
- Thursday-Friday: 3-12:30 a.m. (Thursday fireworks)
- Saturday: noon-12:30 a.m. (Kids Day)
- Sunday: noon-9 p.m. (Parade begins at 1 p.m.)
Note: Times for events will vary
