For decades, the Livonia Spree has been one of the top things to do in Livonia (some might argue one of the highlights of the summer!), and each year it brings a whole lot of family fun to this Wayne County city. This summer, the event celebrates its 65th birthday, and you and yours can join the fun June 23-28, 2015 at Ford Field in Livonia.
Kids will find a spree and carnival featuring rides that zip, whirl and thrill, open every day of the event. The spree grounds will play host to different entertainment at various times each day, including clowns and characters, Wacky Rubber Duck Races, a petting farm and more.
Don’t forget to swing by the Bright House Kids Tent, which will include Ken and Austin Dumm’s comedy magic performance Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, along with other fun like puppets and performer Zeemo – and more.
Speaking of fun for the kids, it’s all about family on Saturday, when Family Fun Day presents races, contests and games on the spree grounds – plus a parade (lineup at 12:15 p.m.).
Each day of the Livonia Spree will bring music, too. Musicians like 50 Amp Fuse, Major Woody, Allen Turner, Parallel Fifth and more will rock and roll on the main stage. Sunday at 8:30 and 11 a.m., guests are welcome to attend two worship services, as well.
Other special events are the Business Aisle on Tuesday, where families can find a bunch of local artists, crafters and businesses. From 8:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Ed McNamara Pancake Breakfast and Spree Scholarship awards are at the Eddie Edgar Arena. Sunday also brings a classic car show and the Rotary Spree Fun Run starting at the Livonia Family YMCA (registration/packet pickup at 7:45 a.m., 8:30 a.m. start for 5K run/walk, 9 a.m. for the one-mile family run/walk).
Of course, you can’t forget the grand finale: the Livonia Spree fireworks! At approximately 10:20 p.m. Sunday, the Livonia Anniversary Committee presents this awesome spectacle. Prepare to be dazzled by a 30-minute display bang, pop and sparkle in the skies.
Livonia Spree hours are as follows:
- Tuesday: 4-11 p.m.
- Wednesday-Friday: 2-11 p.m.
- Saturday-Sunday: noon-11 p.m.
Note: Times for various events and activities vary.
Entry to the Livonia Spree is free, but all-day ride bracelets will cost a fee (you can purchase them online for a pre-sale price of $18, a savings of $5/ticket). Expect additional costs for food and select events, like the wine and beer tasting for the adults that’s scheduled for Tuesday.
