The annual Romeo Peach Festival is back in full swing this Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1-5, 2016.

The 85th annual Michigan Peach Festival in downtown Romeo will bring forth plenty of fun Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1-5, 2016, with activities, entertainment and, of course, lots of delicious peaches!

First and foremost: don’t forget to check out the peach pies that Romeo is famous for. They will be at the Peach Festival Pie Sales and Info Booth every day.

Starting Thursday and running through the weekend, the DIA Inside/Out Art Show will be in various locations around town, so go check it out. And at 6:45 p.m., the 5k and 10k races start, beginning at Romeo High School and ending at the Romeo Community Center.

On Friday, the carnival rides open at 4 p.m., so get tickets or a wristband to enjoy some of the great rides. The carnival fun will continue all weekend.

Saturday, Kidsfest begins at 8:30 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m. There are plenty of fun activities, free for kids 14 and under, like the decorated bike contest, a stuffed animal contest, a water balloon toss, a pie-eating contest and a visit from Rosco the Clown. There will also be kid-friendly performances to enjoy.

At 11 a.m. Saturday there will be a bean-bag tournament. Everyone’s favorite backyard game gets serious.

On Sunday, don’t miss the classic car cruise that beings at 7:45 a.m. Later in the day at 7 p.m., the annual bed races begin. Watch people race the beds down Main Street!

Labor Day Monday, the children’s parade begins at 10 a.m., and the regular parade starts at 1:30 p.m., both on Main Street in downtown Romeo. Expect plenty of cool floats, bands and groups marching.

Admission is free, though ride wristbands at $25. There will be free shuttles from several locations around town on Saturday and Sunday. Hours for the midway and many activities are as follows:

  • 4-10 p.m. Thursday
  • 4-11 p.m. Friday
  • Noon-11 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
  • Noon-close (or when people begin to clear out) Monday
