Downtown Chelsea Sounds and Sights Festival

One of the big southeast Michigan events this summer, and annual tradition for Washtenaw County, returns and families can enjoy an entertaining two-day, three-night festival July 23-25, 2015.

Chelsea Sounds and Sights Festival returns for their 11th season in downtown Chelsea, running July 23-25, 2015.

There is something for everyone at this festival – especially children. Lend your ears to musical acts from across the spectrum and take a stroll down the sculpture walk. There are outdoor movies, great food, local brews and assortments of unique retail shops and more in store.

The festival kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 23 throughout downtown Chelsea. Social tent opens at 6 p.m. with live music from 7-11 p.m. with a $5 cover charge. There are a big variety of artists this year and the genres include everything from bluegrass to jazz to indie rock.

There will be an open food court on West Middle Street from 5-10 p.m. for visitors to chow down before the showing of Parental Guidance at dusk at Clocktower lawn.

Don’t forget to get back early for the Art Mart noon-8 p.m. on East and West streets. Find all the one of a kind gems and jewels that you’ve been looking for and check out Historical Society Museum and the classic car show 3-8 p.m.

KidZone begins at 10 a.m. Friday behind the Clocktower complex, where little ones can enjoy arts and crafts, learn martial arts and watch magic. But be sure to return on Saturday for the kid’s pet parade and wildlife safari performances. KidZone will include bouncy houses, food, spin art t-shirts, clay land, balloon animals and bowling on both days.

The Chelsea Sound and Sights Festival finishes off Saturday with a bang, starting at 8 a.m. with Chelsea Farmers Market and the Art Market. There will be a chalk art contest, a tour of the museum, a social tent and a dance party at 6 p.m. for a $5 entry.

Event times are as follows:

  • Thursday: 6:30-11 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m.-11 p.m.,
  • Saturday: 8 a.m.-11 p.m.
