Detroit St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Corktown

The fun returns to Michigan Avenue for year 57. If you're looking for metro Detroit events this weekend, this March 15, 2015 party is great for families.

Detroit St. Patricks Day Parade in Corktown

Michigan Avenue in Detroit’s Historic Corktown will be a sea of green on Sunday March 15, 2015 when families young and old grab their Irish-themed gear and head to the city for the 57th annual St. Patrick’s Parade.

The annual shebang welcomes north of 25,000 people each year – and is truly one of those metro Detroit events “musts” for families and visitors of all ages.

The festivities step off at noon on Sixth Street and Michigan Avenue. The parade, which makes it way down Michigan Avenue to 14th Street and takes about two hours, features marching, pipe and drum bands, floats, clowns and more.

Feeling like burning a few calories? Arrive early, about 9 a.m., to register for the 33rd annual Corktown Races. The big 5K kicks off at 10 a.m. There’s also a Kids Quarter Mile at 9:30 a.m., so you can get the tykes involved in the action, too!

It’s free to celebrate Irish heritage for the day at this event – and of course, all are welcome! Be sure to check the forecast before heading out and prepare (as we all know, Michigan’s weather is unpredictable – last year got pretty cold!).
