Ann Arbor Summer Festival

This annual cultural blowout, spanning June 12-July 5, 2015, has three weeks of performing arts, music, movies and more for kids and families.

Looking for some new and unique music or art this summer or simply want to find things to do in southeast Michigan this weekend? Check out the 31st Ann Arbor Summer Festival! Held at Top of the Park, Power Center, Michigan Theater, Hill Auditorium and the Ann Arbor District Library, this three-week festival offers over 140 concerts and events, June 12-July 5, 2015.

For families, the outdoor program (at North University Stage) is a favorite. There’s a variety of free concerts, movies under the stars, open-air shows and more. A sampling? The Kids Rock series features The Trummytones June 14 and MC Frontalot on June 21, and, for those family members 21 and older, a beer tasting by New Belgium Brewing Company on June 16 and Griffin Claw Brewery on June 30.

Be sure to catch an outdoor showing of some of your favorite movies like The Lego Movie (June 14), ET: The Extra Terrestrial (June 16) and Mean Girls (June 18), too.

Want even more kid-specific fun? KidZone returns 5-8:30 p.m. on various dates, with tons of themed activities. Learn some yo-yoing basics with the U-M Revolution Chinese Yoyo Team (June 19) or get some hands on musical experience with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (June 12). See a Lego robot battle on July 4 or join the U-M Psychology Department to make butterflies on July 5. Most of the activities in the KidZone are free, but there may be a fee for some, so be sure to check ahead.

There’s also plenty to see on the indoor stages including music, dance, theater and comedy performances. The bill ranges from high-flying acrobatic performances by the Golden Dragon Acrobats (June 20-21) to Gospel musicians, The Blind Boys of Alabama and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band (June 27) and many more! Show times vary by day and performance. Outdoor shows are free, but indoor show tickets costs range. Note that for the sake of other patrons, children under 3 aren’t admitted to indoor shows.
