Bouncing ponies, hurdling pigs and Dachshunds in hot dog suits? No, it's not a scene from the Twilight Zone: It's the annual Art & Orchard Festival in Washington Township, returning this Father's Day Weekend, June 13-15, 2014.
This festival is in its fifth year of delivering summer-style fun for families in and around Macomb County. Kids can join in on the backyard games and inflatable "pony bop" races – and everyone can check out a garage sale, flea market, the Lock, Stock and Barrel Sale, art displays, orphan plant sales and museum tours. Don't forget the big fireworks display on Saturday night!
Also for Saturday festivalgoers, swing by "An Evening at the Races," where wiener dogs do indeed dress up as hot dogs and race one another. New for this year's race night is the hot dog pig races. If you're more into doing the racing than watching it, consider signing up for the Fun Run. For $25-$30, patrons can enter a 5K, 10K or 15K race on Saturday morning, with all proceeds going to A Beautiful Me, a youth-empowerment group in the city.
Don't forget to treat dad to pancakes on Sunday at the Fire Department & Seniors' Pancake Breakfast, featuring flapjacks and local Winter Sasuage. It runs 7:30 a.m. until noon, and is $7/adults, $6/dads, $4/ages 6-12 and free/5 and under. Why not take him on a trip to the Lions Beer Tent, too?
Festival admission is free, and additional charges vary by event. Times also vary, with earliest attractions kicking off at 7 a.m. Friday, 8 a.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
