What better way to top off the week of Earth Day (it's officially on Tuesday, April 22) than being surrounded by kids' fun in southeast Michigan's ultimate hub for animal conservation?

For a second year, the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak is hosting its GreenFest, set for April 26-27, 2014. This weekend event, happening on a Saturday and Sunday, is all about celebrating Mother Earth and teaching families about taking good care of the environment.

Highlights include earth-friendly crafts and an endangered species and green scavenger hunt – not to mention a 30-foot rock-climbing wall, provided the weather holds up. You can also enjoy a family yoga class and a bit of animal enrichment, along with a fun concert by "Joe Reilly and the Community Gardeners" at noon and 2 p.m. both days.

Be sure to also visit the Green Games Gallery and have a go at some games that feature recycled material, plus enjoy story telling and more. The Detroit Chemistry Club will also be on hand, hosting some cool science experiments.

All events are included with zoo admission, which is $14/ages 15-plus and $10/ages 2-14. Want a discount? Simply bring along a wine cork, rinsed Capri Sun pouch, empty chip bag or old cell phone for recycling – or carry in your own refillable water bottle. That'll get you in for just $8!
