Grab the cooler and bust out the bathing suits – it’s summertime! Celebrate the beginning of vacation time at the Grosse Ile Islandfest at the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport, May 29-31, 2015.
For its 31st year, this weekend-long event welcomes you “join us at the beach.” The fun includes reggae, island music and after-dark techno.
The main daytime attractions range from arts, crafts and games to food and rides for all ages. Kids and adults alike can marvel at aircraft displays, jump at the chance to ride in a monster truck and have a blast together playing on the midway or watching the Saturday morning parade.
A car show, live midway music, historical tours, traditional carnival rides and more also help you and yours kick off the start of the season – and the Friday evening fireworks display definitely rings it in with a boom.
Hungry? The local Knights of Columbus also delivers steak dinner on Saturday, as well as a pancake breakfast on Sunday.
If you’re interested in special seating and dinner during the fireworks, consider VIP fireworks tickets, which are available in advance for $60 for adults and $20 for kids 12 and younger.
Islandfest hours are as follows:
- Friday: 4 p.m.-midnight
- Saturday: 11 a.m.-midnight
- Sunday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Best of all, Islandfest is absolutely free and open to everyone. So get out there and join the fun!
