Livonia Spree at Ford Field

The very first year had too little food. The second had too much. The third was just right – and, more than 40 years later, the Livonia Spree returns June 24-29, 2014 to celebrates the birthday of this suburb with some fun for the whole family.

Families can expect a full week of games, a midway carnival, live music and special events. On Tuesday, the Spree and carnival open at 4 p.m. with hot dog, pig and wacky rubber duck races – plus a petting zoo, which all happen daily throughout the event. Plus find clowns, food, slot car racing, art show and much more.

Saturday is Family Fun Day, complete with races, contests and games starting at 1 p.m. There's also a parade that lines up at 12:15 p.m. Have a child or other family member with handicap concerns? Visit 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, when rides are free for those with physical special needs (note that you are responsible for assisting the person on/off rides).

Parents: Check out the 5K or the mile-long fun run and beer and wine tasting events. And everyone can enjoy live comedic and musical performances and local gymnastic and karate exhibitions.

The Spree closes Sunday at dusk with a traditional 30-minute fireworks display preceded by Steve King and the Dittilies.
