Now that winter is finally gone, it’s time to pack away the earmuffs and kick off summer the right way this Memorial Day weekend. This year, the weekend will be filled with ceremonies, parades and festivals across Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and Washtenaw counties that are sure to be fun for everyone. Hit a memorial service to honor our veterans or take the little ones out for a carnival treat. Pack your coolers, cake on the sunscreen and take the kids out for some holiday fun!

Sumpter Township Country Fest in Belleville

This four-day event features everything from carnival and pony rides to clowns and magicians. In addition, there’s a craft and car show, live music and DJs, a baby contest and princess pageant – and even a demolition derby! Adults can enjoy a beer tent and casino.

Southfield Memorial Day Service

A perfect homage to veterans and active-duty service members, this ceremony includes a presentation of colors, 21-gun salute, a playing of taps and more. Light refreshments available in city hall following the ceremony.

St. Mary’s Polish Country Fair in Orchard Lake

Polish and American food, entertainment and tons of carnival rides, including an 80-foot roller coaster, are just a few of the many things happening at this cultural festival. Along with kids’ activities like pottery painting and mosaics, there’s fun for all ages with shopping, raffles, dancing and a Vegas tent.

Memorial Day Ceremony Livonia

This tribute to veterans includes military salutes, a wreath-placing ceremony and music. After the ceremony, attendees can also visit the Memorial Wall that honors Livonia veterans whose names are etched in granite and listed by the war in which they served.

Greater Rochester Heritage Days

A weekend of Civil War re-enactments, lumberjack shows and pony rides awaits at the park. The festival celebrates the history of Rochester and Oakland County with displays and demonstrations. The Crafts Along the Creek Art and Craft Show will take place during the festivities.

Civil War Remembrance at Greenfield Village in Dearborn

This Memorial Day weekend, hundreds of Union and Confederate re-enactors, civilians and musicians come together to perform an authentic encampment with parades, artillery demonstrations and period music. Find special exhibits and presentations and hands-on activities, too.
