A festival celebrating the community and local and well-known artists and musicians is yours to visit – for free! Check out the 2013 Sounds & Sights Festival in downtown Chelsea, an annual must-see for Michigan natives that's heading back to town July 25-27, 2013.
This year marks the 37th season of music, eats and brews. Visitors can experience an open-air market, vendors from local restaurants, a classic car show – and, of course, live tunes on 10 different stages. In fact, each day has a different musical theme: Thursday's is "hometown favorites," Friday it's "country" and Saturday is "dance party."
There are tons of fun activities planned for the kids in attendance at this year's festival, too. Situated at the Chelsea Clocktower Complex, the KidZone packs in Chelsea Teddy Bear Factory tours, a mini obstacle course, three bouncy houses, Little Conductors train rides, crafts and big trucks, to name just a sampling. This spans 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It also features a few special treats, like kid band The Kerfuffles (11 a.m.-noon Friday) – and, if you don't want to leave your furry friend at home, a Pet Parade (10-11 a.m. Saturday).
The festival begins 5-11 p.m. Thursday and continues for two more days of fun, running 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday.
Also, if you didn't know, the musical foundation for this fun weekend actually happens weekly during the summers. It's called Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights. So if you just can't get enough, check out the festival on a smaller scale 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays till Aug. 15.
