History roars to life in Macomb County at the annual Civil War Skirmish returns to Wolcott Mill Metropark in Ray Township. Happening Oct. 8-9, 2011, this weekend encampment event lets parents and kids step back in time as hundreds of Confederate, Union and civilian re-enactors give a peek of the past.
Military camps, battle "skirmishes," military drills, cannon fire, craft demos and period wares for sale are all part of the action. Kids can make an old-fashioned craft, join a military drill or attend a period school lesson. Don't miss the portrayal of a portion of the Battle of Bull Run, happening at 2 p.m. both days.
The skirmish happens 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9. There's also a special "1860s Candlelight Tour" on Saturday night at 7 p.m., when a "sprit of the past" leads visitors into the Civil War era (it's recommended for adults and kids over age 6).
No need to register; just drop on by! Admission costs for the main event costs are $3 per adult, $1 per child; for the Saturday evening tour, it's $6/adults and $3/kids (ages 6-14).
