"Cheeky, fussy and true blue." That's how Thomas rolls. And every kid's favorite "No. 1" tank engine is once again riding the rails from his beloved Island of Sodor to spend three weekends right here in southeast Michigan.

The annual Day Out With Thomas heads to Greenfield Village in Dearborn on April 26-27, May 3-4 and 10-11 – all Saturday and Sunday dates. These six fun family days feature children's entertainment and activities galore. But the highlight is definitely a train ride in a car pulled by a life-sized Thomas!

Rife with photo ops, this experience has plenty in store. After a 25-minute memory-making trip aboard the iconic "Really Useful Engine," kids get to meet Sir Topham Hatt, Sodor's famous director. Be sure to visit the Imagination Station, too, where kids can get a temporary tattoo of their fave engine, enjoy arts and crafts, play with Thomas toys and, of course, watch Thomas and friends at a video viewing station.

The Henry Ford also packs in its own special goodies, including magic shows (at noon and 1:45 and 3:15 p.m.), schoolyard games like pedal cars and bubble stations, and storytelling fun at five times throughout each day. And, of course, there's a Thomas & Friends Gift Shop for kids to pick out a special souvenir.

This event is structured by departure times – and you must make a reservation (slots fill fast!). Times span 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. If you choose, there are also daily Railroader's Breakfasts that are 8-9 a.m. (doors at 7:45 a.m.), complete with buttermilk pancakes, sausage links, train rides, live music and Sir Topham Hatt.

Tickets for the main event are $35.75/adults, $29.25/ages 5-12 and $11.75/ages 1-4 and all members of The Henry Ford. Costs include general entry to Greenfield Village. There's also a $5 parking fee for nonmembers. For tickets that also include breakfast, it's $53.25/adults, $42.75/ages 5-12 and $25.25/ages 1-4 (members pay a bit less; see website for details). If you have a child with autism, for the main event, ask about a "discount offer" provided by the Autism Alliance of Michigan.
