Where can you find heaps of one-of-a-kind, locally made goodies for sale, plus food from local restaurants, live performances and more? Why, the DIY Street Fair, of course! It’s hitting Ferndale Sept. 12-14, 2014.
This family-fave festival returns to its nook on the east side of Woodward Avenue, near Nine Mile Road (fun hint: You can also visit the Funky Ferndale Art Fair on the other side of the avenue – a quick walk away).
The big lure is the marketplace, where there will be about 140 local crafters, entrepreneurs and organizations present and sell their work. Check out live music entertainment all weekend from various artists, too, including the folks from School of Rock at noon on Saturday and Sunday.
For families, the Kids Zone is a total highlight! There will be a nifty Ferris wheel running 6 p.m.-midnight Friday, 11 a.m.-midnight Saturday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday. Plus, the weekend goes full-throttle with engineering fun with Michigan Science Center at the Ferndale Public Library courtyard (craft a car from recycled materials and see how it races). More fun waits inside the library at various times Saturday and Sunday, including story time and crafts.
For the parents, the DIY Street Fair features samples of craft beers made right here in the “Great Beer State” and across the country, as well as cocktails. Or, if you’re hungry, get your fill of grub from local eateries.
Overall festival times are as follows:
- Friday: 6 p.m.-midnight
- Saturday: 11 a.m.-midnight
- Sunday: 11 a.m.-midnight
