Hometown Holiday Event in Chelsea


Kick off the holiday season by eating breakfast with the jolly man in red, listening to some charming Christmas carols, watching a light parade, crafting with the family and more at the Hometown Holiday event in Chelsea, Nov. 30-Dec. 2.

Hometown Holiday, a free annual event that takes place in Chelsea's downtown and southtown areas, features three days of holiday activities in the first weekend of December.

The event begin at 6 p.m. Friday with Luminaires on Main Street by the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts in the Chelsea area, a tree lighting with Santa (also at 6 p.m.) at Pierce Park, a live nativity scene at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, and other events such as cookie decorating and story telling.

Wake up Saturday and take the kids to a free 8:30 a.m. breakfast with Santa at the Comfort Inn & Village Conference Center. Parents, you'll enjoy the All The Trimmings Artisan's Holiday Show with woodcarvings, cross-stitch, stained glass and more. Enjoy a holiday tradition and explore Christmas on the (Waterloo) Farm with tours and live music from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Also on Saturday, there is a Gingerbread House Workshop at 11 a.m. and noon, the annual Chelsea Light Parade at 6 p.m., and the community sing-a-long at 7 p.m. – full of carols and a chance to warm up with refreshments.

On Sunday, the last day of the event, don't miss the Giant Holiday Stocking Giveaway at 11:30 a.m., where you'll have a chance to win a 6-foot-tall stocking! End the event with the Chelsea Chamber Players Holiday Concert at 3 and 7 p.m.

You can check out the three-day event at the following times:

  • Friday: 6-8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Sunday: 3-8 p.m.
