Winter Blast Detroit is back – so grab the kids and get ready for some chilly good times in the D!
When it comes to places to visit in Detroit in winter, this is one you won’t want to miss. The Meridian Winter Blast in Detroit, formerly known as Motown Winter Blast, is one of the most exciting winter weekends in Detroit. This event, happening Feb. 6-8, 2015, features an array of winter festivities, local food, music and fun for all ages.
Bundle up the family and head down to enjoy the many free outdoor activities at one of the great annual winter festivals in Michigan – such as ice skating, snowshoeing and hockey competitions. Stop by the “Winter Fun Lab” from Michigan Science Center or Children’s Performance Stage and take part in family-fun activities. Or take a rest and listen to one of the more than 50 entertainment acts playing on two music stages.
But the big fresh arrival for 2015? A zip line! Soar through the air and fly 300 feet down Woodward Avenue on the Bedrock Zip Line Adventure. This new festival feature is the longest, fastest mobile zip line available – and allows two people to zip simultaneously on two lines 34 feet in the air. Tickets are one for $10 or two for $15. It’s perfect for the thrill-seeker in your group.
And be sure and visit the No. 1 attraction, the Snow Slide – a 30-foot slide that features three lanes traveling 200 feet in seven seconds. Tickets are $3.
Cold? Don’t worry; you can find heat every 150 feet. Warm up at one of the many comfort zones. Enjoy free hot chocolate and coffee from Tim Horton’s and marshmallow roasting, too.
If it’s all too much for one day, take advantage of “Spend The Night In The City” with a discounted rate at Westin Book Cadillac Hotel Detroit.
Parents, if you need a night out, call your sitter and get your tickets for the official Meridian Winter Blast after party on Saturday Feb. 7. The Snow-Torious Pub Crawl runs 9:30 p.m.-2:30 a.m. Tickets $10.
So, if you’re looking for one of those fun places to go in Michigan in the winter, don’t miss out. The Meridian Winter Blast runs Feb. 6-8, 2015. Hours are 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.
