Goodbye, PlayStation – at least for one weekend. Hello, old-school games!
Introduce your kids to the fun of your generation: pinball machines, with flashing lights, bells and all, at the Michigan Pinball Expo at Oakland University in Rochester, happening April 3-6, 2014.
This fifth annual family-friendly event promises 125-plus machines in a 15,000-square-foot space – and hours of fun. And by hours, organizers mean 57 hours of total playtime. Bonus: You pay admission, but the machines are set to free play.
Would you call yourself a "Pinball Wizard"? Head over to the tournament machines on the back wall and give those flippers a whirl. Just pay the entry fee for your chance to prove your skills and win money and trophies. For the competitive kids, there's the "Wizard in Training" level, too.
If you'd like to bring a bit of the expo home with you, check out the pinball machines for sale, plus goods from vendors. On Saturday, April 5, listen to guest speakers on various pinball topics at the Fireside Lounge, starting at 1:30 p.m.
Admission is $17.50/advance for adults and $20/door. For kids 4-15, tickets are $12.50/advance and $15/door. Times for the event are as follows:
- 8 a.m.-midnight Thursday April 3, Friday April 4 and Saturday April 5
- 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday April 6
