Winter temperatures and snow might deter you from visiting places like the Detroit Zoo. But don’t let the cold slow you down – because there’s tons of wintertime fun in store during Wild Winter Weekends in Royal Oak, happening select weekends Jan. 17-March 8, 2015.
Bundle up and head to this Oakland County spot for three weekends of activities that are free with zoo admission, which is $14 for adults (ages 15-61), $10 for ages 2-14 and free for kids under age 2. Planning to bring grandma and grandpa? Seniors ages 62-plus also pay $10 for admission. The events take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on select Saturdays and Sundays at the Ford Education Center.
Wild Winter Arctic Adventure
Jan. 17-18, 2015
Kick off January by embracing the cold with arts and crafts with a wintertime theme, plus the chance to see ice carving demonstrations live. Enjoy games and entertainment, too.
Wild Winter African Adventure
Feb. 7-8, 2015
Since February is Black History Month, celebrate with two days of fun – including an African drum lesson, arts and crafts, games and more. Plus, the zoo’s education specialist David Gakure – who is also a Kenyan naturalist –shares special stories with kids and parents.
Wild Winter Safari Social
March 7-8, 2015
It’s time to warm up with the safari social. Sip on hot chocolate – or channel summertime with some ice cream. Go on a scavenger hunt, get your face painted, do some arts and crafts and of course, chat with zookeepers.
