Ready to rev up (and down) Woodward Avenue? Enjoy the summer sun, classic cars, great food and plenty of entertainment on Saturday, Aug. 16, as the 2014 Woodward Dream Cruise draws in millions of fans for its 20th anniversary year of fun.

Autos from every generation can be found filling the historic M-1 route, whether they're cruising by the crowds of excited people or displayed at one of the event's many hotspots throughout miles of fun. More than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, collectors vehicles and many other classics will be polished and revving their engines across the nine cities that host the event.

But first, kick things off with the third annual Cruise in Shoes 5K Fun Run/Walk on Saturday morning along Woodward Avenue. You'll stroll or jog through a few Royal Oak neighborhoods and finish at the city's Shrine High School.

Then, grab your lawn chairs and plant yourselves along the curb of the cruise – or opt to walk the crowded streets to enjoy different views of the cars and activities.

The fun festivities include classic car shows and official merchandise booths in Birmingham, a Kid's Play Zone and live entertainment in Ferndale, Gospel Fest and Motown review in Pontiac, and a food court with entertainment in Royal Oak.

Although the event takes place all over Oakland County, one of the most action-packed places for your family is in Berkley, where street dances, movies, food, games, prizes and more are taking place all weekend long.

Many of the nine host cities also have festivities starting before Saturday's main event. Days and times to join the fun are as follows:

  • Thursday: 3-9:30 p.m. (Ferndale)
  • Friday: 6-11 p.m. (Berkley)/noon-9:30 p.m. (Ferndale and Pontiac)
  • Saturday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m. (all participating cities: Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac and Royal Oak)

The Woodward Dream Cruise is free to the public and will offer free shuttle services to and from certain designated parking areas.
