Temperatures are rising across southeast Michigan, and that means it’s time to pack up the kids and make your way to the nearest community pool. Whether your child’s a little Michael Phelps in the making or more comfortable bobbing in the shallow end with her inflatables, these waterholes offer affordable fun close to home. Decked out with amenities such as spray fountains, tippy buckets, water slides and lap lanes, there’s no shortage of ways to make a splash this summer. This east Detroit spot has a “Way Cool Wave Pool,” “Splish Splash Land” for tots, 100 spray fountains, two 23-foot water slides and more. Plus swim lessons, camps and parties.

West Bloomfield Family Aquatic Center

  • Costs (2016): outdoor pool: $6-$8/adult, $4-$6/ages 16 and under; indoor pool: $3-$5/adult.

Here, the outdoor pool has mini geysers, a slide and vending machines nearby. During the summer, the indoor pool’s reserved for adults, but throughout the rest of the year, swimmers can utilize the ADA-compliant indoor pool. Check out private and semi-private lessons to better your stroke.

Willow Metropark Swimming Pool

  • Costs (2015): $4/person, $3/person after 5 p.m., free/kids under 30 inches tall; Metroparks vehicle permit: $10/daily, $35/annual

Stop to splash at the community pool during a visit to this Metropark. Soak in the shallow end, play water basketball or slip down the slide. A food bar is located nearby.
