Wet ‘n’ wild good times are in store for kids of all ages, all around metro Detroit and the greater Ann Arbor area. These public pools offer summer fun that’s affordable and close to home. Some are souped up with slides and cool water features, while others offer your bread-and-butter open swim in a safe setting. Allen Park Middle School Pool

Its wave pool sports three-foot waves – cruise them on rafts included with your entry fee (first-come, first-served). There’s also a three-story tall inflatable water slide – the “Rip Slide” – that’s 175 feet long and 47 feet wide.

Its spray ground has water cannons, a spritzing tunnel and more. At the Olympic-sized pool, race a down two water slides and practice popping off the diving board (kids must be 48 inches or taller to ride slides). There’s a sandy beach to enjoy where families can build sandcastles along Lake St. Clair, too.

Livonia Community Recreation Center Pool

Ann Arbor’s only indoor community pool offers guests a wide range of aquatics – including log rolling, open swim, lessons and “Splash Days” hosted periodically throughout the school year for afternoons of games, activities and prizes for the entire family. Dive-in movies are other mid-season highlights, when the entire family’s invited to bring their own inner tubes while watching a film.

Macomb Township Recreation Center Pools

Richmond Community Swimming Pool

You’ve got five pools to choose from: a “Splash Pool” complete with water curtain and 150-gallon tipping bucket, a 240-foot long “Lazy River” (inner tubes available), the red two-story twisting water slide, lap pool and hot tub. Just outside, find a splash pool with splash pad featuring water geysers, cannons and foaming jets.

Royal Oak Middle School Pool

This Ann Arbor city pool is family friendly, affordable and filled with soak options. Kids over 42 inches tall can tackle a 125-foot water slide, and smaller ones can play under water-shooting contraptions.

This tropical oasis has a “Dual-Flume Slidewinder Waterslide” and wave-action pool. The “Big Bucket” water playground boasts 30-plus interactive activities, including a giant tipping bucket, waterfalls and sprayers (must be 56 inches or shorter), and “Ragin’ Rapid,” a group raft ride with three stories of twists and turns.

Here, the outdoor pool has mini geysers, a slide and vending machines nearby. During the summer, the indoor pool’s reserved for adults, but throughout the rest of the year, swimmers can utilize the ADA-compliant indoor pool.

Stop to splash at the community pool while you and the family peruse the Metropark. Children ages 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. A food bar is located nearby.
