Ann Arbor Art Fairs in Downtown Ann Arbor

During the week of July 21-24, 2016, find four street art fairs in Tree Town, including a mix of diverse artists, artwork and family fun.

Summer in southeast Michigan wouldn’t be complete without a visit to at least one Michigan art fair, but how about four in one weekend?

From July 21-24, 2016, the city of Ann Arbor hosts its annual street art fairs – and all four have a distinct personality and feature fun for the family.

The Original Ann Arbor Street Fair

There’s “The Original” Ann Arbor Street Fair, which will showcase 200 artists, the Ann Arbor Potters Guild and a handful of college artists through the “New Art, New Artists” program. Featured work ranges from clay, jewelry, glass, digital, drawing and printmaking. Plus, find live demos, music and performances here.

Kids can get in on the art fun, too, at the Art Activity Zone on Ingalls Mall (11 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, noon-6 p.m. Sunday). It’s free and open to kids of any age. Kids can make a number of crafts, like a butterfly marionette, a Motown music-inspired paper doll, an album cover and more.

Location: Find this fair at North University Avenue, East Washington Street and down Ingalls Mall.

State Street Art Fair

The 49th annual State Street Art Fair will be happening in downtown Ann Arbor, too, featuring 300 artists working in a variety of mediums including wood, ceramics, leather, painting, photography and more.

Location: This one weaves around the streets a bit. It rounds down East Liberty (roughly Division Street to State Street), part of Thompson, down Maynard (from East Liberty to East Jefferson), down a fraction of East William (from Thompson to State Street), up State Street (from East William to East Washington) and jutting into North University until South Thayer.

Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair

Then, make your way to The Guild’s Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair, with a whopping 375 artists, as will the Carr Center “Artist-in-Training” program.

And, on the corner of Main Street and William, six different artists hit the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair Stage on Friday and Saturday nights, presented by The Ark. Don’t miss the open stage on Thursday night.

Location: This fair takes place partially on State Street from Madison to William and jumps over a few blocks to South Main Street (East Huron to William) as well as East Liberty from Ashley to Fifth Street.

Ann Arbor’s South University Art Fair

And the final of the four art fairs is the Ann Arbor’s South University Art Fair, known as a fine arts and crafts fair. Find a ton of mediums represented here, from mixed media 2D and 3D, metal, jewelry, painting, glass, fiber and more from international and local artists. There will be free live music at the main stage, a beer and wine garden on South Church Street – and don’t forget the official souvenirs!

Location: Runs down S. University from State Street to Forest, down East University until Willard, down Church until Willard.

Plan your visit

Admission to all four fairs is free, and all run 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, noon-6 p.m. Sunday. Download a map that outlines the locations of all four fairs here, which will help you get around. Shuttles will be available, taking off from Briarwood Mall, Pioneer High School, Huron High School (additional fees apply; get schedule and cost info here).
