This is not any average boat show. While boats are a huge draw for the Boating and Outdoor Festival at Lake St. Clair Metropark, the Harrison Township event – happening Sept. 17-20, 2015 – takes it up a notch and tacks on activities for the kids, live music, food and much more.
Nautical moms and dads can appreciate the hundreds of boats of all sizes at the show – and there are some you can even board! On Saturday, boaters are welcome to voyage to the third annual “Cruising Outpost” party where there will be free pizza and live island music.
Sail over to the kids zone with the little ones to visit Jake the Pirate Saturday and Sunday. They can take a photo with Jake and play a game of toss with Skully the Parrot. Thursday through Sunday, remote control boats make a splash in MacRay Harbor Remote Control Boat Pool. Kids can get their faces painted, jump in the bounce houses, and try their hands at fishing in the fishing pond, too
The first ever “Smokin’ on the Beach” smoked meat competition on Saturday will be a must for the barbecue buffs attending the shindig. If you’re not registered to participate in the competition, stop by to watch the grill-off.
Speaking of food and entertainment, the two mix with Mac and The Big Cheese, a comedic cooking duo making appearances all weekend long.
Are you a football fan? Don’t let that keep you on the couch at home! Come out to the Boating and Outdoor Festival where organizers will tune the bar TVs to college football on Saturday and the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
The event costs $10 for adults and is free for kids 12 and younger when accompanied by an adult. Parking is $7 for entry to the Lake St. Clair Metropark, unless you have a seasonal pass.
Times are as follows:
- Thursday-Friday: noon-7:30 p.m.
